Congratulations to SK and SC on their successful marriage petition and getting a Green Card for SK.

SK is from South Africa and SC is from Colorado. They met in Thailand, and were married in South Africa. After getting married, SK and SC traveled between the U.S., Thailand, and Indonesia. Due to their work and lives abroad, they were unsure if they should undergo the Green Card process from overseas or from the U.S. We provided information about both options, the different timelines, and important considerations in their ability to work and travel to help them make a decision. Ultimately, they applied for a Green Card after returning to Colorado, right before the pandemic shutdown.

We worked virtually on the entire case, through video calls, emails, and the post office. We encountered some challenges. It was not an easy time for SK and SC while they waited for SK’s work permit, facing many uncertainties about their future, raising a toddler during the pandemic, adjusting to living in the U.S., and trying to obtain documents from South Africa while it was under lockdown and having concern for their families.

Throughout the process, SK and SC remained resilient. They were driven by the importance of having their family be together in one country. We submitted strong evidence, prepared them for their interview, and they were issued the Green Card within two weeks! It was a pleasure to work with SK and SC, and I wish them and their family all the best in the U.S.

If you are living abroad or wish to petition for someone you married overseas, and debating about whether you should petition from overseas or the U.S., contact us to learn about your options. We will help you make an informed decision.
